Beware- Demo

Beware from somewhere in Pennsylvania. I did a little bit of  research on this band before listening and got supremely stoked. Members of Stick Together and Mothers Of Mercy should have you setting the bar pretty high, too. With all the hype I'd given these guys before listening they proved to be the farthest thing possible from a LetxDown. Fast hard youth crew ripe with gang vocals and delivered sounding like some long lost Chain Of Strength tracks. There are always so many good bands coming out of this area. Go pick up the tape from Get Real Records if you dig these tunes.

Black Feathers- Demo

Black Feathers from Perkasie, PA. These dudes are bringing an interesting blend of 90's hardcore and 80's youth crew. The entire time I listen to this demo I keep switching between wanting to mosh up a storm and feeling like someone's about to come out of my computer screen and choke me out. It's fucking awesome. Download this and look out for other releases from Get Real Records!

Truth- Demo '11

Playing fast and energetic youth crew, Truth From Fort Worth, TX pulls from older bands like Uniform Choice and Straight Ahead as well as later revival era bands. There's a big hint of later-era BOLD and a definite In My Eyes vibe. Hopefully this band will start coming up north more. If they try they've got my full support and should have yours too. These jams are solid, check em out and back these dudes in whatever they do. Holding it down for the straight edge.

Light Years- This Will Come Back To Haunt Me

Cleveland pop punk! I'm extremely selective with what pop punk I listen to but Light Years definitely passes. Ex-members of Overload and My Rulez throw down together to reinvent the Get Up Kids and make your head bop. At times as fast as most hardcore bands but still as poppy and digestible as more mainstream bands like Blink 182 and filled with catchy hooks. Bands like this are really what help shine some light on the line between pop punk and straight pop. Anyone who can tell me who the girl singing towards the end of "World Burns Out" is entitled to a $10k reward.

Tinnitus- Demo

Tinnitus is a four-piece fastcore band out of Worcester, Massachusetts. I have high hopes for any band from the same city that put out bands like I rise, Last Lights, and Mountain Man. These guys stand out to me because they play straight up fastcore put them throw in a heavier, darker sounding edge. The song Heretic is great. It just makes you feel like you're fed up with someone and now jsut figuring out how you're going to kill them. Heavy shit. This was recorded with their old singer Phil, who quit on tour last August and flew back home. Kevin moved from bass and does vox now and I'm pretty sure they're planning on recording a new 7" soon with him. If you're into this, look out for that.

Band Of Mercy- Vegan Power

Texas-based, ex-Die Young, Band Of Mercy is a vegan rage powerhouse. The solos are simultaneously melodic and ripping with fast thrashier parts thrown in inbetween. The lyrics are pretty cheesey sometimes but I'm pretty sure they're supposed to be haha. Parts of this album remind me of Bad Religion's "No Control" but the vocals bring it in another direction with a more raw, angry feeling. These guys are playing Sound And Fury this year but haven't done much else so far. Considering the track records of some of these dudes I'm surprised there hasn't been much touring. Hopefully soon though. Oh, and one last piece of parting wisdom from the band- "Eat, fuck, be free! The Animals know better than we!"

Stand For- Demo

I think I was at this band's first show. In January I was on tour with a band called Orchids (Ex- Impact) from Buffalo and we played a show in Flint, MI with these guys as they were transitioning into Stand For from their former incarnation as Brink. I had met Oscar the summer before while he was filling in on bass for Face Reality and I was stoked to see what he was up to in this band. This demo takes extremely heavy influence from Boston-style bands like Righteous Jams, Right Brigade, and Mental. I have a feeling this band is gonna blow up, and I hope they do. Perfect tone, awesome riffs, and the straight edge.
