No Submission- S/T

NO SUBMISSION- New (vegan?) hardcore from Burlington, VT. Band has ex-members of Crucial Times and My Revenge, and is fronted by Mikey X, who helps to run one of the oldest DIY punk venues in the country called 242 Main. Solid NYHC jams, with lyrics against homophobia, nationalism, meat, and most of the other bad things in the world. Fast as fuck pit factory of a demo, can't wait to see what comes next.

BACK FROM THE DEAD

So It's been a few months since the last post. I've been doing a bunch of moving and other shit and don't technically have a computer anymore, but I'm gonna get this back up on its feet. I probably won't be posting as much as at first, but I'll try to get as much new shit out as I can. If you want something reviewed/ posted shoot me an email at StandXStrongFanzine@Gmail.com and I'll get on it ASAP!

Tinnitus- Gehenna (Rough)

This is a rough recording off the new Tinnitus 7". The song was on the Demo (download that from here if you haven't already) but this has a darker tone and a rad intro. Kevin's singing on this now so the voice is different too. Hard ass samples are included, can't wait to see how this turns out all mixed up and shit and stoked on the new record.

Out Of Time- Demo

Ripping hardstyle from St. Louis, MO. As soon as I turned this on this morning I knew I was gonna be into it. Most parts of this sound a little faster than what you'd usually get out of this style, I'm into it. One of the best things about this demo has to be the rad solos. I know hardcore's supposed to be all fast and simple but I've got a special place in my heart for some more technical parts sometimes. Get on this download and mosh in your basement and check out their facebook for dates, they're heading up north this summer.

Wrong Answer- The World Is Empty

Picked this up in December on their tour with Agitator. Wrong Answer is Philly-area band with members of LetxDown. This 7" pelts out fast, catchy metallic hardcore. I love this band because it's full of genuine hatred and anger, sounds matching with the lyrics of living in a world that's only there to fuck you over. Not as many nifty samples as The Wrong Way demo but the tunes are still rad and I jam this everyday without fail. Look out for them on their way to Sound And Fury this summer and keep an eye out for anything else coming out of Harvcore Records.

Dweller- Dwemo

Dweller from Cleveland is a group of kids 14-18 playing ripping ass fastcore reminiscent of Infest with scratchier/ more abrasive vocals (which I'm personally more into). This shit sounds pissed off as fuck and with an average song length of 36 seconds. Featuring members of Ghost Breeder and Ages (both also worth checking out).

Always Try- Demo '11

Holy shit I'm glad these dudes hit me up with this demo. It fucking rips on all kinds of levels. Always Try from SoCal play righteous youth crew mixed with a Righteous Jams style to make you go off the walls. It's mid-tempo'd and energetic like you'd expect from a youth crew band but they've also added in a few parts that are just slow and pounding. This tone is just solid as fuck too. All in all this is an awesome band, get down with it.

Beware- Demo

Beware from somewhere in Pennsylvania. I did a little bit of  research on this band before listening and got supremely stoked. Members of Stick Together and Mothers Of Mercy should have you setting the bar pretty high, too. With all the hype I'd given these guys before listening they proved to be the farthest thing possible from a LetxDown. Fast hard youth crew ripe with gang vocals and delivered sounding like some long lost Chain Of Strength tracks. There are always so many good bands coming out of this area. Go pick up the tape from Get Real Records if you dig these tunes.

Black Feathers- Demo

Black Feathers from Perkasie, PA. These dudes are bringing an interesting blend of 90's hardcore and 80's youth crew. The entire time I listen to this demo I keep switching between wanting to mosh up a storm and feeling like someone's about to come out of my computer screen and choke me out. It's fucking awesome. Download this and look out for other releases from Get Real Records!

Truth- Demo '11

Playing fast and energetic youth crew, Truth From Fort Worth, TX pulls from older bands like Uniform Choice and Straight Ahead as well as later revival era bands. There's a big hint of later-era BOLD and a definite In My Eyes vibe. Hopefully this band will start coming up north more. If they try they've got my full support and should have yours too. These jams are solid, check em out and back these dudes in whatever they do. Holding it down for the straight edge.

Light Years- This Will Come Back To Haunt Me

Cleveland pop punk! I'm extremely selective with what pop punk I listen to but Light Years definitely passes. Ex-members of Overload and My Rulez throw down together to reinvent the Get Up Kids and make your head bop. At times as fast as most hardcore bands but still as poppy and digestible as more mainstream bands like Blink 182 and filled with catchy hooks. Bands like this are really what help shine some light on the line between pop punk and straight pop. Anyone who can tell me who the girl singing towards the end of "World Burns Out" is entitled to a $10k reward.

Tinnitus- Demo

Tinnitus is a four-piece fastcore band out of Worcester, Massachusetts. I have high hopes for any band from the same city that put out bands like I rise, Last Lights, and Mountain Man. These guys stand out to me because they play straight up fastcore put them throw in a heavier, darker sounding edge. The song Heretic is great. It just makes you feel like you're fed up with someone and now jsut figuring out how you're going to kill them. Heavy shit. This was recorded with their old singer Phil, who quit on tour last August and flew back home. Kevin moved from bass and does vox now and I'm pretty sure they're planning on recording a new 7" soon with him. If you're into this, look out for that.

Band Of Mercy- Vegan Power

Texas-based, ex-Die Young, Band Of Mercy is a vegan rage powerhouse. The solos are simultaneously melodic and ripping with fast thrashier parts thrown in inbetween. The lyrics are pretty cheesey sometimes but I'm pretty sure they're supposed to be haha. Parts of this album remind me of Bad Religion's "No Control" but the vocals bring it in another direction with a more raw, angry feeling. These guys are playing Sound And Fury this year but haven't done much else so far. Considering the track records of some of these dudes I'm surprised there hasn't been much touring. Hopefully soon though. Oh, and one last piece of parting wisdom from the band- "Eat, fuck, be free! The Animals know better than we!"

Stand For- Demo

I think I was at this band's first show. In January I was on tour with a band called Orchids (Ex- Impact) from Buffalo and we played a show in Flint, MI with these guys as they were transitioning into Stand For from their former incarnation as Brink. I had met Oscar the summer before while he was filling in on bass for Face Reality and I was stoked to see what he was up to in this band. This demo takes extremely heavy influence from Boston-style bands like Righteous Jams, Right Brigade, and Mental. I have a feeling this band is gonna blow up, and I hope they do. Perfect tone, awesome riffs, and the straight edge.

Search Bloc- Cleveland Confidential: The Final Report

Search Bloc is Cleveland's current take on some of their older stuff like Face Value and OLC. A five piece, straight forword band playing reactionary straight edge hardcore recently signed to Seventh Dagger Records. One of my favorite things about this band are the lyrics, not many bands would have the balls to blatantly say things like "Stop Doing Drugs You Fucking Losers" plain and out in their lyrics or song titles. You also don't often find a band that even makes you want to mosh durring the fast parts. These guys catch a lot of flack but I don't give a fuck. And just incase you need another reason to check them out... Their guitarist's older brothers were in Integrity. Fuck with that. Download the Cleveland Confidential demo and look out for their new record on Seventh Dagger!

Tough Luck, Richmond Hardcore

This is Tough Luck from Richmond, VA. They play a harder 90’s style hardcore that makes me want to punch out windows and destroy houses and shit. It’s hard as fuck. This band sounds like they should tour with Swamp Thing. They’re coming through Cleveland July 23rd on their tour with Break Away so make sure you come out if you’re in the area or hit up the show near you. Definitely check this band out, you won’t regret it.
